Methodology and data sources

Estimates use 2026 federal income tax brackets and standard deductions (IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32) and the 2026 Social Security wage base of $184,500 (SSA). Social Security is 6.2% up to the wage base; Medicare is 1.45% plus 0.9% above the additional Medicare threshold.

Pre-tax 401(k) contributions reduce federal taxable income but not Social Security or Medicare wages. Hourly pay assumes 2,080 hours a year.

Only states with no wage income tax are covered so far. Results are estimates: they exclude credits, itemized deductions, other pre-tax benefits and local taxes. This is not tax advice.
